LEAKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI — The community of Leake County is mourning the tragic loss of Brandon Moore, 39, and Sandra Moore, 40, a married couple who died on Sunday afternoon after a large tree fell onto their vehicle.
According to Leake County Coroner Earl Adams, the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Mars Hill Road. Emergency responders were dispatched after reports that a tree had fallen onto a moving vehicle. Authorities confirmed that the couple was traveling south in a white Toyota RAV4 when a large pine tree fell across the front of the vehicle.
Both Brandon and Sandra Moore were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the incident was weather-related, though the Leake County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the circumstances are still under review.
Sheriff Randy Atkinson expressed condolences on behalf of the department, stating that the victims were valued members of the community and will be remembered by those who knew them.
The sudden and unexpected loss has left family members, friends, and the wider community in deep grief as they come to terms with the tragedy.
